Intraoral periapical radiography is a complex technique for obtaining and interpreting images. The features of this technique are manifested by distortions of the image of the shape and size of anatomical parts and pathological zones, vertical relationships of anatomical parts between themselves and with the zones of bone destruction. It is not always accurate to determine the number of root canals of the teeth and the degree of their obturation, measurements and calculations are not reliable.

Image distortion increases significantly if the shooting rules are not followed. Often encountered errors are: an arbitrary choice of angles of inclination and the centration of the X-ray tube, the wrong location of the X-ray receiver in the patient's mouth, inefficient selection of physical and tech

nical conditions of shooting, non-compliance with the conditions of the post-processing and printing digital image.

The interpretation of intraoral periapical radiographs should be carried out taking into account the knowledge of the projection patterns of the X-ray diagnostic picture in normal and pathological processes in the dental alveolar region.
