Тhe number of cancer patients is increasing every year. A significant part of all malignancies are tumors of the maxillofacial region. Metastasis is a serious complication. An urgent problem of modern medicine is the search for effective methods for early diagnosis of tumors and metastases.

Purpose. 1) To determine the effectiveness of PET-CT as a diagnostic method in oncology; 2) To assess the prevalence of tumors in the oral and maxillofacial region; 3) To determine the possibility of using PET-CT as the gold standard for diagnosing maxillofacial tumors.

Material and methods. Data analysis of domestic and foreign literature, scientific publications, electronic resources.

Results and discussion. The authors of scientific publications note the effectiveness of PET-CT as a diagnostic method. There is a fairly high prevalence of tumors in the orofacial region, the tumor metastasis of the maxillofacial region has not been studied enough.

Summary. The high prevalence of maxillofacial tumors and their metastases in the maxillofacial region requires the search for highly effective and accurate diagnostic methods. PET-CT can be included in the "gold standard" examination of patients with malignant tumors in the orofacial area.
