holesteatoma of the temporal bone is one of the current problems of modern otorhinolaryngology. The article presents a review of the main methods of radiological diagnostics used for revealing this pathology, their advantages and disadvantages. A new sequence of magnetic resonance imaging especially effective in diagnostics of cholesteatoma is described - nonechoplanar diffusion-weighted imaging (non-EPI DWI). Non-EPI DWI allows to differentiate cholesteatoma from other pathological content in the middle ear. This sequence has a special role in patients after surgical treatment because it allows to visualize cholesteatomas against the background of scar tissue and fluid and eliminates the need for revision surgery.
Keywords: cholesteatoma, temporal bones, MRI, CT, non-EPI DWI, CPA, diagnostic imaging.
