A RARE CASE OF MALIGNANCY OF PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA

OF THE PAROTID SALIVARY GLAND

Purpose. To demonstrate a clinical case of a rare malignant pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid salivary gland, detected using a complex of high-tech radiological methods.

Materials and methods. Patient R., 59 years old, female, complained of a bulky formation in the oropharynx on the left. The patient has a history of left-sided tonsillectomy. On examination, there is an asymmetry in the oropharynx on the left due to an incensement of the soft tissue component. There are no external manifestations of the disease. The patient was referred for multispiral computed tomography (MSCT); to clarify the condition of the soft tissues magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the oropharyngeal region with contrast was performed.

Results. According to a comprehensive radiology examination, radiological signs of malignancy of a pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid salivary gland were detected, which developed at the site of an early resection of the left palatine tonsil.

Discussion. Salivary gland carcinoma from the pleomorphic adenoma is a rare subtype of carcinoma with nonspecific symptoms and an extremely aggressive course. The diagnosis of malignant neoplasms of the salivary glands is carried out using high-tech methods of radiological diagnostics (MSCT, MRI) with the presence of characteristic radiological semiotics. The methods of radiological diagnostics in the integrated approach made it possible to determine the development of this disease, which was confirmed histologically.

Conclusion. Thus, a complex radiological approach made it possible to timely diagnose such a rare course of the disease as malignization of pleomorphic parotid adenoma.
