Introduction. Analysis of the theoretical aspects and practical use in radiology of paragraph 6.1.2 of Medical criteria in the assessment of isolated fractures of the external and internal bone plates of the cranial vault. To evaluate the impact of CT data interpretation on investigative and judicial decisions in victims of traumatic brain injury with isolated fracture of the external or internal bone plates of the cranial vault.
Materials and methods. The article analyzes the theoretical aspects and practical experience of using paragraph 6.1.2 of the Medical Criteria for assessing life-threatening fractures of the arch and base of the skull. The study includes criminal cases, on the basis of which forensic medical examinations were conducted and completed to determine the degree of harm caused to human health. Fractures of the parietal bone spread in isolation to either the outer or inner bone plates. The fundamental instrumental method confirming the extent of damage to the bones of the arch was skull CT. The radiologist's conclusion obtained during a consensus forensic medical examination was considered legitimate.
Results and discussion. The primary radiological reports did not contain a detailed description of the fracture line of the external or internal bone plate of the parietal bone. An analysis of expert reports on isolated fractures of these plates revealed the necessity for a consensus study involving an independent radiologist. The main reason of that was a generalized description of fractures without detailing, which significantly affected the objectivity of conclusions when assessing harm to health.
Conclusion. For a reliable assessment of the degree of damage caused to human health in case of traumatic brain injury, radiological reports should focus on a detailed description of the course of the fracture line of the cranial vault bones, with mandatory indication of the involvement of the external or internal bone plate.
