urpose. To explore the current potential of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of intestinal obstruction caused by strangulation, based on a review of scientific literature on this subject.

Materials and methods. The search was carried out in databases Pubmed, Scopus, Elsevier, e-Library and GoogleAcademy using the keywords "acute bowel obstruction", "intestine invagination", "adhesion intestinal obstruction", and others.

Results. As a result of the literature review, key CT signs that are characteristic of various types of bowel strangulation obstruction were identified. These include the "whirlpool" symptom of blood vessels, the "fatty notch" symptom, the "beak" symptom, as well as reliable signs of ischemic changes in the intestine, such as reduced accumulation of contrast agent in the intestinal wall and local edema in mesenteric tissue.

Discussion. The CT scan of bowel strangulation is very diverse and requires a careful analysis of the computed tomograms to determine the location of the compression of the intestinal lumen and the adjacent mesenteric vessels. The primary goal of diagnosis is to identify the presence of strangulation and any CT signs of ischemia of the intestinal wall in order to accurately determine the appropriate treatment plan.

Conclusion. Further studies are needed to include a multifactorial analysis of all radiological signs and symptoms, both of the presence of strangulation and ischemic intestinal changes, in order to improve the computed tomographic diagnosis of complex cases of acute intestinal obstruction.

Keywords: acute bowel obstruction, intestinal strangulation, computed tomography.
