QUANTITATIVE MRI METHODS IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF DIFFUSE LIVER DISEASES

This review systematizes the capabilities of quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods in the comprehensive diagnosis of diffuse liver diseases. Diffuse liver diseases, characterized by hepatocyte damage and decreased functional activity, represent a serious, global problem, often leading to chronic conditions. In recent years, MRI has shifted from qualitative assessments to precise quantitative measurements of the liver parenchyma, offering a noninvasive, standardized, and accurate alternative to biopsy. Particular attention is paid to such new quantitative MRI techniques as magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) for assessing the degree of liver fibrosis in patients with cirrhosis and hepatitis, proton density lipid fraction (PDFF) measurement for quantifying liver steatosis, methods for assessing iron metabolism in the liver, including T2 relaxometry and signal intensity ratio analysis, which are relevant in conditions such as hemochromatosis, and radiomics as a tool for extracting texture information from MRI images, allowing for a more detailed analysis of changes in the liver parenchyma.
