Purpose. To summarize data on the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in urological practice.
Materials and methods. A search and analysis of studies evaluating the feasibility of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for visualizing pathological changes in the kidneys, bladder, and prostate was conducted. The primary outcome was visualization accuracy. The advantages of this study compared to standard diagnostic methods were also determined.
Results. A total of 57 studies were analyzed, demonstrating the high accuracy and sensitivity of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for assessing kidney, bladder, and prostate tissue perfusion with minimal toxicity to internal organs and the absence of radiation exposure. Limitations include the small sample size and retrospective design.
Discussion and conclusion. Various imaging techniques are currently widely used in urological practice. For a long time, multislice computed tomography (MSCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were considered as the gold standard for tumor diagnostics. However, these methods have several limitations: toxic effects of contrast agents, inability to use in individuals with claustrophobia, and the presence of metal structures and implants. In such cases, an alternative diagnostic method – contrast-enhanced ultrasound may be used.
Keywords: diagnostics, ultrasound, contrast agent.
